Stormwater Management in the Des Plaines River Watershed

A CALL FOR ACTION

It is time to promote a new relationship between the Des Plaines River and the people who live in its watershed. Under current conditions, citizens and local governments see the river as a threat, and they react to its destructive powers through construction of flood control and prevention facilities that are only partially effective. The Des Plaines Watershed Team emphasizes a different approach, one that will succeed as a result of local initiatives. It weds flood reduction to enhancements in biodiversity, water quality, recreation, and other river and community amenities. This Call for Action encourages residents of the Des Plaines River Watershed to take charge in improving the health of both their river and their communities.
