Restore Your Watershed


AT HOME--Direct roof downspouts away from driveways to the lawn or flower beds, where it can soak into the ground.

  • Plant trees, shrubs and other deep rooted plants in your yard as part of natural landscape to absorb the rain water.
  • Minimize the use of concrete and htmlhalt for paths and patios. make sure the plastic weed barriers under decks are perforated so water can pass through.

IN THE COMMUNITY--Work through your school or place of worship to interest others in working for the watershed.

  • Support the efforts of your local garden or environmental club.
  • Volunteer to help groups plant natural vegetation, or organize a group yourself.
  • Encourage your village, park and library officials to work with other governments in watershed management. Ask them to plant deep rooted plats as part of their landscaping.
  • Contribute to not-for-profit organizations that are promoting good stormwater management practices.
  • Write a letter to the editor of your local paper.
