The Des Plaines River Watershed Alliance

The Des Plaines River Watershed Alliance is a coalition of organizations and individuals that live, work, study, own property and play along the river and in the watershed acting together to preserve, protect and restore its land, water and life. It is the only citizen-based, volunteer group organized to advocate for the river and watershed in its entirety from the headwaters of the river near Union Grove, Wisconsin to its confluence with the Kankakee River near Channahon, Il.

The Alliance will focus on the relevant issues of the river and watershed such as flooding, water quality, biodiversity and the recreational uses of the river though its component organizations and the work of its standing committees and Alliance volunteers.

The Alliance was created as a result of “The River Runs Through Us, The Des Plaines River Watershed Conference” held on Saturday, June 12, 1998 at Dominican University in River Forest, Il. Over 230 people attended the conference and formed the basis of an on-going watershed organization.

The Interim Board of Directors is composed of five of the seven individuals who formed the executive steering committee of the conference. They will serve as an interim board for one year and will develop a permanent board of directors.
